Luke 19:11-27
In Luke 19:11-27 Jesus teaches a parable of a nobleman who was preparing to travel to a distant land. Before he began his journey, he gave ten servants ten minas and instructed them to conduct business while he was absent from them. Upon his return from gaining a new kingdom he brought the ten servants before himself to inquire about the ten minas that he has given them. The first servant invested in the mina and made ten minas in return. The nobleman gave the servant ten cities to rule over for his work. The second servant reported that he had made five minas with the mina that he was given. He in return was given five cities to rule over. But one servant, who was afraid of the nobleman, took the mina and hid it until his master returned because he was afraid of losing it. Because he did nothing with the mina he was given, it was taken away and given to the servant who had made ten minas. When questioned of his actions, the nobleman replied that those who have, more will be given, but to those who do not have, what they do have will be taken away.
This is an example that we should be active with the gifts that God has given us.
This is a promise that Jesus will return one day; while we are waiting for that day, we should be utilizing the gift(s) that He has given us.
When we submit our lives to Jesus and receive salvation we are to do two specific things: (1) to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul, and (2) love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-40). The first is showing our love for our Creator and to give Him all praise and glory in all we do. The second is where we use the specific gift(s) that Jesus gives us as we seek His guidance each day. Sharing God’s love with those around us may be accomplished in many ways, as He specifies to each of us each day as we focus our lives on what He would have of us. With whatever individual gift(s) we are given, God’s love should be seen in our lives as we strive to please Him in all we do and say.
Dear Lord,
We are all part of one body in Christ Jesus through salvation in Him, but the individual gifts that You give us are all equally important. You work in us through Your Holy Spirit that You give to each of us as we accept and believe in Jesus, and You touch the lives of others through each of our lives. Please help us to see the importance of utilizing the gifts that you give us as these gifts lead others to new life in Jesus and help us to grow in our relationships with You. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
