Luke 24:44-45
Jesus has appeared to His disciples in Jerusalem. He has shown them His hands and feet as He has encouraged them to touch Him so they would know that He is real and not a ghost. He has also eaten with them (something a ghost would not do) (Luke 24:36-43). Then Jesus gives reference to His statement in Luke 24:25-27 about how He is the fulfillment of the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms (Luke 24:44). And in Luke 24:45, Jesus opens to His disciples the ability to understand the Scriptures.
This is the confirmation of the fulfillment of the Old Testament Scriptures pertaining to the Messiah.
This is a promise and example that we must first believe in Jesus before we can begin to understand the Scriptures.
Jesus came to fulfill the Law of Moses in the Old Testament. When Jesus was raised from the dead, the Law was fulfilled (Matthew 5:17-18). This opens the door to a new life in Christ Jesus through the fulfillment that He has accomplished for us; as a gift from God to us that we might through faith by His grace be reconciled to Him. As we begin to seek God’s will for our lives more and more, He will open us to an understanding of His Word more and more that we would grow in our relationship with Him and be to the praise of His glory (Ephesians 1:3-14).
Dear Lord,
Thank You that through Your grace to us we can have faith in You and in salvation in Jesus. Thank You that through our faith we can grow in our relationship with You and that You will allow us to gain an understanding of Your Word that will allow us to continue growing in that relationship as we seek Your will for our lives. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
