Luke 2:36-38
Anna must have been a well-respected person, and by her constant presence in the temple in fasting and prayer, one who could hear the Lord speaking to her heart. God’s chosen people Israel was at a time of stagnation in that they had not heard from the Lord through a prophet in many years. For those who held fast to the Scriptures and believed that God would send the Messiah, the news of the Christ Child was a blessing that they all would have gathered to hear as Anna helped spread the message of redemption.
This is an announcement made in the temple to confirm the previous announcement made by Simeon that the Christ Child/Messiah has been born.
As we study God’s Word, we find that when He makes an announcement, He makes it in an unmistakable way. In this case, the announcement made by Simeon of the Christ Child cannot be written off, but is reinforced by another respectable person, Anna, a prophetess and known figure in the temple. This is a very important time in the history of God and man.
God has prepared His great plan of salvation for humanity in a very precise tedious way in which all the pieces are recorded in His Word for us to discover. This plan tells us where we will spend eternity, and if we do not spend time in study of God’s Word, in prayer with Him, and in fellowship with one another, God’s great plan of our salvation will go unnoticed.
During the ministry of Jesus, He told His disciples in Matthew 28:18-20, … “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Dear Lord,
Your Words are just and true, and You have given us a record of the events which lead up to, and include, Your great plan of salvation for all humanity. Please plant within us the passion and desire to open Your Word daily to not just read Your Words but to study them in seeking Your will for our lives as we submit our will to Your will for us. Please help us to remove our way of thinking from “what can I do for You Lord,” to “What would You have me do for You Lord?” Please help us to remove our focus from “I” and put it on “You” Lord. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
