Luke 14:15-24

In Luke 14:15-24 Jesus teaches a parable of a man who gave a great banquet and invited many people. But when the time came to call all the guests to the banquet, they all gave excuses on why they could not come to this great supper. Once the man was informed that all who had been invited refused to come, he sent word into the streets and the surrounding countryside to invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, and the blind. Once all these had arrived, there was still yet room for more. The master of the house then sent his servant throughout the countryside to compel more people to come in so that his house could be filled. Jesus ends this parable by stating that the master of the house proclaimed that none of those who were initially invited will taste of the supper that he has provided. It is also important to notice that Jesus began telling this parable in the second person and then ended the parable in the first person.

This is an example of the transition from the Old Testament to the New Testament.

This is a promise and an example of Jesus offering salvation to everyone who will receive Him.

All throughout the Old Testament God called His chosen people Israel to Him, but they refused to believe wholeheartedly in Him. They turned away from God over and over, and when He sent His one and only Son to deliver the message to them, they chose to be stiff-necked and turn away from God once more. This is shown by the words of the Apostle John in John 1:10-13 as he teaches that Jesus came to His own, but they refused Him. But for everyone that would receive Him, He gave the right to become children of God. Jesus gave the instructions in Mark 16:15 to preach the Gospel to all creation. He said that those who believe and are baptized will be saved. Those who do not believe will be condemned.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for opening the door of salvation to everyone. Your perfect plan of salvation is extended to everyone who will receive You by believing in Your Son Jesus, the Savior of the world (John 3:16-17, Romans 10:9-10). Please give us the courage to humble ourselves to this great truth so that we would come to You and sit at the table in which You have prepared for us; so that we would be Your children, and You would be our One and only God. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
