Luke 8:9-10
The disciples of Jesus came to Him seeking the meaning of the parable. They wanted to find out the meaning of what Jesus was teaching them so that they could understand this lesson and apply it to their own lives. But to the others who simply listened to the words of Jesus and then went back to willfully living a life of sin without concern for learning, understanding, or applying that lesson in their lives, Jesus spoke in parables and quoted the words of the prophet Isaiah in fulfilling the Scripture,
“Seeing they may not see,
And hearing they may not
Understand.” [Isaiah 6:9 (NKJV)]
This is a promise and example that Jesus will give understanding to those who seek Him, but if one’s heart is not truly seeking the guidance of Jesus, His words will remain as parables without understanding as prophesied by Isaiah.
God lovingly gave us His Son Jesus as a pure sinless substitute to pay the price for our sins, “that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). He does not force us to believe in Him or in what He teaches us through His Son, but if we will make the choice to willingly receive His love in our hearts and seek His guidance in our lives, He will give us understanding of what He is teaching us and how to implement what we learn through Him into our lives to bring salvation to our lives, joy to our hearts, and to bring glory to Him through our lives; that is our true purpose as created by Him, for Him, and to bring glory to Him through our lives.
Dear Lord,
You have given us Your Word, Your Son Jesus to set us free from the sins that we cannot control. Please speak to our hearts now and compel us to seek understanding of Your Word and how we should and can apply that understanding into our lives so that we can bring glory to You. Please help us through the application of the understanding of Your Word to be to the praise of Your glory as the Apostle Paul declares in Ephesians 1:12-14. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
