Philemon 17-20

This letter from the Apostle Paul to Philemon, in his plea for forgiveness for his newly found brother in Christ Jesus, Onesimus, is so much a resemblance of how Jesus pleads our case to God. I can see Jesus representing us as He stands before God Almighty and pleads our case that God would, “receive him as you would me,” as the Apostle Paul pleads to Philemon in Philemon 17 (NKJV) for the forgiveness of Onesimus. “Put it on My account” Jesus would say, as did Paul in Philemon 18. “I will repay” as Paul states in Philemon 19, that all would receive the refreshing of heart in the Lord as Paul requests in Philemon 20.

This is an example of a plea for forgiveness.

We all could put this plea for forgiveness for the life of Onesimus into account as Jesus standing in front of God Almighty with His plea for our lives as we declare Him our Savior and put our faith in Him. Jesus teaches in Matthew 10:32-33 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.” Ask Jesus to be your representative – your Savior – to stand before God and plead your case for salvation; His forgiveness rating is 100%, if you will trust in Him.

Dear LORD,

We all could put ourselves in the place of Onesimus being in need of forgiveness and his need to go to someone other than himself for help in the matter. As the Apostle Paul pleaded the case of Onesimus, please prompt us all to ask Jesus to plead our case to You that results in forgiveness not of this world but forever in heaven – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
