Luke 20:20-26

The chief priests and the scribes are now furious at Jesus for speaking against them.  They have been embarrassed by the words that Jesus has spoken against them and are now seeking a way to find fault with Him so they can revenge themselves against Him. However, Jesus did not commit any sin; He was flawless, and the Pharisees, chief priests, and the scribes only further embarrassed themselves and instead of repenting, they fell deeper into the sin that has grasped them. In this passage, they question Jesus about paying taxes to Caesar in hopes of trapping Him in His words, but the reply of Jesus is to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to give to God what is God’s (Luke 20:25). The chief priests and the scribes were left speechless as Jesus knew their thoughts even before they spoke to Him in this attempt to find Him at fault.

This is an example of how Satan can turn one’s heart against Jesus.

This is an example that the power of Jesus is greater than the power of Satan.

Many people have tried to render Jesus unworthy of our praise, but none have succeeded but to only tell lies that the Bible proves are such. Satan will have us to rebel against Jesus for as long as we will allow him to do so, but when we hear Jesus speaking to our hearts and calling us to Him is the time in which we must grasp Jesus with both hands and cry out to Him for forgiveness. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). We cannot overcome the grasp that Satan has on us through our sinful nature other than through repenting of our sins and asking forgiveness from Jesus, and then, through Him, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Choose Jesus and choose life!

Dear Lord,

Satan blinds us to Your wonderful will for our lives and the only way we can truly find peace and life eternal is through Your Son, our Savior, Jesus. Please lead us to Jesus that we would have the courage and strength to turn from the sinful nature and put on new life in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior that we would be to the praise of Your glory (Ephesians 1:11-14). In Jesus name I pray, amen.
