Luke 20:9-19
In this parable, Jesus is describing the history of God’s chosen people Israel. God chose Israel to be His people and set the example to the rest of the world of who He is and that He is the one and only true God of all. God sent the prophets of the Old Testament to guide His chosen people, yet they rejected them and killed them. So then, God sent His only begotten Son to be an example to His chosen people and to save them from sin, death, and Satan. But even then, the pride, arrogance, and self-centeredness of the Pharisees, scribes, and leaders of the Israelites caused them to reject Jesus. Psalm 118:22 is a prophecy that is fulfilled in this parable and the reality of the Israelites rejection of Jesus. God will in due time reveal Jesus to be the true King of Kings and Lord of Lords and all will bow to Him (Luke 20:18; Romans 14:10-14).
This is a promise and example of God’s guidance given for His ultimate plan of salvation. We must be broken of ourselves to realize our need for it, but those who refuse will be broken as all will bow to Him when that day comes. Those who submit their lives to God will inherit life; those who refuse will inherit death (John 3:16-21).
Jesus is the light of the world (John 8:12); He gives life to those who put their faith in Him (John 11:25); He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6); Through our growth in Him, His light will shine through us and bear fruit that will bring glory to God; without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5-8).
Dear Lord,
Your Son Jesus is our cornerstone. He is the light that gives life to the world and He will give each of us that life if we will turn from the sinful nature and put our faith in Him and seek His guidance each day which in turn brings You glory – the purpose that we all were created for. Please open our eyes to the rich life You have for each of us in our Savior Jesus that we would all bring glory to You and inherit life eternal. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
