Luke 22:1-6
As the feast of the Passover approached, more and more people began to follow Jesus. The chief priests and the scribes became more and more agitated with Jesus and sought a way in which they might kill Him (Luke 22:1-2). Judas Iscariot was one of Jesus’ disciples, but he fell to the temptation of the sinful nature (John 12:4-6) and this opened the door for Satan to take advantage of the situation in attempting the destruction of Jesus. Satan entered Judas and possessed him to go to the chief priests and captains in making a way to betray Jesus (Luke 22:3). The chief priests and captains agreed to give Judas money to turn Jesus in to them when the crowds were not present as they feared the reaction of the many people who were gathering each day to listen to the teaching of Jesus (Luke 22:5-6).
This is the plot of Satan working through man in his attempt to destroy God.
Jesus teaches us of the murderous ways of Satan in John 8:42-47. Jesus teaches us that when Satan speaks, he speaks lies because there is no truth in him. The same holds true today; Satan, through the sinful nature of this world, tries to convince us that what he speaks to us is truth, but Satan (Lucifer) can only speak lies. This is how we know when Satan is trying to trick us in to doing sinful things against God, because if we know what we are about to say or do would not be reflective of how Jesus teaches us to live our lives, then it is a trick from Satan trying to make us fall away from our true lord and Savior. This is why Jesus teaches us to be watchful and pray always (Luke 21:34-36). If we take our focus off of Jesus, Satan is lurking and waiting for such a time to infiltrate our lives. 1 John 4:8-11 teaches us that God is love, and that as God loves us we too should also love one another. If our words and actions are not grounded in love (God), then they are not in God’s plan for our lives. We must put on the whole armor of God each day and He will help us to overcome the fiery darts of Satan (Ephesians 6:10-20).
Dear Lord,
Satan tries to imitate this plan of deceit in his attempt to destroy You each day in our lives. Please speak boldly to our hearts that we would be able to distinguish Your voice from the trickery of Satan. Please help us to wear and use the whole armor of God against the fiery darts that Satan throws at us each day. You are love and You are truth and You are life. Thank You for saving us from sin and the power of Satan that we may be to the praise of Your glory (Ephesians 1:3-14). In Jesus name I pray, amen.
