Titus 3:2
In Titus 3:2 (NKJV) the Apostle Paul continues to remind the people of the Church of the things which are becoming for sound doctrine as he states, “2to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.” This may be the most difficult, while seeming to be so easy for us all to accomplish. Why can we not be peaceable and gentle with each other while showing humility to everyone? It is because of sin in this world that messed up the whole program of love as God intended it to be.
This is a command “2to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men” (Titus 3:2).
The frustrations experienced due to sin are clearly seen in Paul’s description and plea as the Bible teaches us in Romans 7:19–20, “For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.” The Bible also teaches us the way to be set free from the sinful nature as Paul continues in Romans 8:3–4, “For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” Jesus declared in John 8:31, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” He continues in John 8:36, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” And in John 14:6 Jesus declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Dear LORD,
Please help us all to put and keep our focus on Your Holy Spirit dwelling in our lives and in our hearts as our guide to following the righteousness of Christ Jesus that we may overcome the sinful nature of this world which pulls at us all in the flesh. Please help us to focus our minds spiritually in Christ Jesus that we may be set free – free indeed. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
