Titus 1:1–4
In Titus 1:1–3 (NKJV) the Apostle Paul announces his dedication to God by referring to himself as a “bondservant of God” Who is incapable of lies in a world that is full of false teachings and has appointed Paul to preach the gospel. In Titus 1:1–3 Paul gives reasoning for sharing the gospel as he states, “1Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledgement of the truth which accords with godliness, 2in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, 3but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;”. He then gives a proper introductory blessing to Titus of “Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior” (Titus 1:4).
This is an example and purpose for sharing the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus began His earthly ministry by declaring in Matthew 4:17, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” In Matthew 28:19–20 He gave instructions to His disciples before He ascended to heaven of, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.” Paul has announced his role in this mission of Christ Jesus. He has passed on to Titus his role in this mission of Christ Jesus, and through God’s word and His Holy Spirit working within us today, this mission is passed on to each of us to share the gospel to the next generation.
Dear LORD,
Thank You for Your word that we can learn about the gospel of Jesus Christ and the kingdom of heaven. Please touch each of our hearts and lead us to share Your love for us with others that they too may be saved and bring glory to You through all our lives – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
