Romans 9:10-13

The election authority of God in His calling us to Him is further exemplified in this passage as the Apostle Paul uses the birth of Esau and Jacob (the twin sons of Isaac and his wife Rebecca as we read about in Genesis 25:19-28).  Also, we must understand that the true firstborn son of Abraham was Ishmael, born from Hagar (Genesis 16).  The promise of a son through Abraham’s wife Sara was the blessing of the faith of Abraham in God that was the fulfilling of the promise given to Abraham by God.  I mention this important fact because of the supreme authority of God in choosing whom He will call and to whom He will bless as He is the Creator and His will is the supreme authority.  God chose the second born of Isaac to further show His supreme authority in giving His blessings to whom He will choose, and then emphasizes this through His prophet Malachi in Malachi 1:2,3 as the Apostle Paul notes in Romans 9:13.

This is a promise and example of God’s supreme authority, and of the need we have to seek His will for our lives in that it may not (and most likely is not) as we would see and understand it.

We most likely have all heard that God works in mysterious ways.  This is because we do not always understand why God works and uses us in the ways in which He does.  We were and are created in His image.  This means that we will always try to believe that we know what God is doing (or should be doing) in our lives.  But we are not perfect in our ways as God is, and we do not, nor have not the understanding of Almighty God and of His great plan of salvation for all of humanity.  God uses us in ways that we can see and agree with as He gives us talents and uses those talents for His glory.  But God also uses us in ways that we may never see the results of nor even know that He is using a confusing situation to us to lead someone else to Him.  We do not have to know everything about how God is using us, but that when He prompts us – we follow His guidance in our obedience to Him.  Sometimes just saying “Hi” to someone will brighten their day in ways that we will never know.  Jesus commands this of us in John 13:34-35 as He states, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

Dear LORD,

We do not always understand what You are doing in our lives, and we sometimes may not even want to agree with it, but please help us to understand and learn that You are using us in ways that we may not understand the importance of to someone else to whom You are using a confusing situation to us to bless someone else.  Please help us to put and keep our faith in You through our Savior Jesus that we may bring glory to You even when we don’t understand why.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
