Romans 8:23-25

Those who have the “firstfruits”, as Paul states in Romans 8:23 (NKJV) are those who have put their faith in Christ Jesus; and the groaning that we do within ourselves – in the Spirit which God sends to live within us – is a groaning of anticipation as the Spirit reveals within us the way we should be – in Christ – in now realizing the sins of this world (to flee from them) and the blessings which are to come that we are hopefully awaiting.

Paul then gives us an explanation of what hope truly is: For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?  But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance” (Romans 8:24-25).

This is an example of our longing to be in our eternal bodies in the Spirit for our eternal existence.

In the purity of Christ Jesus which lives within each of us who have put our faith, trust, and hope in the Lord Jesus and professed Him to be our Savior is a hope that longs for things to be made right once again.  We feel this longing as we live on this earth because we know through God’s Holy Spirit at work within us that there is a better life ahead; a life eternal that is without the pain and sufferings of this world.  This is the hope that Paul is speaking of in Romans 8:23-25 that “groans” within us as, “we eagerly wait for it with perseverance” (Romans 8:25b).

Dear LORD,

You have given us a longing to be with You in heaven where all things will be made right with You for eternity – no more pain and suffering that we must persevere through this earthly world of sin, but a new pure life – in Christ Jesus – in Your glory.  Please give us the strength through our Savior Jesus to persevere until that glorious day.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
