Romans 8:12-17
Because God’s Holy Spirit dwells within us and we are given a new life in Christ Jesus, as we have been taught by the Apostle Paul in Romans 8:9-12, we are now sons/daughters of God (Romans 8:14). Paul teaches us about being children and heirs of God as he states, “and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together” (Romans 8:17 (NKJV). It is very important to understand that when we opened our hearts to Christ Jesus and the forgiveness that only He provides, God set us free from the bondage of fear (Romans 8:15) and gave us a new renewed spirit of adoption that reunited us (His lost children) back to Him as we acknowledge God as our true Father in heaven in obedience to Him. We, at that moment, became heirs – in Christ Jesus – of the gift of God which is, “eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23b).
This is a promise of becoming children and heirs of God as we live through the guidance of His Holy Spirit through our salvation in Christ Jesus.
We all suffer in this world. Jesus stated in John 15:18, 20c (HCSB), “If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me before it hated you…If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.” Regardless of accepting or denying Jesus entry into our hearts, we are going to and do suffer in this world. But when we live a renewed life in Christ through opening our hearts to receive the guidance that only comes through His Holy Spirit, we have a renewing of hope through the trials and tribulations of this world, and a joy from the Holy Spirit that never leaves us and never forsakes us (John 14:18).
Dear LORD,
Please help us to see that when we open our hearts to Your saving grace through Your gift to us in Christ Jesus that we are no longer bound to the fear of sin, but are set free from it in our new life and filling from Your Holy Spirit that You send to live within all who will put their faith in You. We are now new and renewed in Christ Jesus and set free from the bondage of sin to experience the joy of salvation in and through our savior Jesus. Please help us to celebrate our salvation in Christ Jesus every day! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
