Romans 5:15a

The Apostle Paul has begun an explanation of sin entering the world and in so entering all humanity.  And now he begins explaining the way/means by which we escape this plague that has entered the world.  Paul refers to this as the “free gift” (Romans 5:15, NKJV); the NIV simply refers to this as the “gift”.  The point being, whether it is over exemplified by calling it a “free gift” (NKJV) or simply calling it a “gift” (NIV), the implication is that it is a gift – it is free; all gifts are free of charge, that is the definition of a gift – it is something given out of love or caring for another regardless of whether it is deserved or not – it comes from the love and compassion of the giver for the one who is receiving the gift.

This is an example of the gift – the free gift from God for all who will put their faith in Him – Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.

We all give gifts to others.  We give gifts because we have caring, compassion, and love for the ones in which we give the gifts to.  We know what it means to give gifts – and we know what it means to receive gifts; the happiness and warmth that comes when we receive gifts is one of the best moments of our lives.  We also know what it feels like when someone refuses a gift that we offer them our of our caring, compassion, and love for them that is rejected by them.

We are made in the image of God and He feels these things to a much deeper level than we do, so when we reject the gift that God has offered to us, being salvation from sin through His Son Jesus, He feels the rejection from His creation which has turned their backs to Him.  Don’t turn your back to God any longer…open your heart to Jesus today and accept the Gift of life that God has extended to you – in Christ!

Dear LORD,

The best gift we can ever receive is to open our hearts to You and accept the gift of salvation in and through Christ Jesus who you sent to save the world from sin (John 3:16-17).  Please open our eyes so that we may see Your great love for us in the eternal gift You have offered to us – in Christ, that we may be set free from the chains of sin and enter into Your glory.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
