Romans 2:3-4

The Apostle Paul teaches us in Romans 2:3-4 that we cannot justify ourselves through pointing out the faults/sins of others.  We too have faults/sins that we need to deal with in our own lives and have no place judging others in theirs as this is God’s place as eternal Judge.  In attempting this behavior is no “self-justification” that is worthy in the eyes of God (Romans 2:3, NKJV).  Paul goes on in Romans 2:4 to call out those who do such things as to if they are so hard-hearted that they, “despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?”  This leading to repentance is where we are all supposed to go in dealing with our own faults/sins in taking them to the cross of Christ Jesus and with a sincere heart seek His forgiveness that we may be granted righteousness through Him and escape His judgment.

This is an example of how Satan provokes us to blindness of our own faults/sins by focusing on the faults/sins of others.

We all have our own problems with being sincere to Jesus and overcoming the wiles of the devil.  Satan wants us to bypass putting our focus on ourselves as this leaves us in a position of unforgiven sin in our own lives and prevents a right standing with our Creator God through the salvation that He has provided for us in His one and only Son Jesus.  Jesus teaches in Matthew 7:1-3 (NIV), “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.  For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in our own eye?”

Dear LORD,

This lesson applies to us all as we have a sinful nature painstakingly grinding at us to overlook our own sins while misplacing our focus on the sins of others and their need for forgiveness.  Please convict us in our own sins that we would submit ourselves to You LORD and come to the foot of the cross of Christ Jesus and give our sins to Him with a sincere heart in repentance that we would turn from our wicked ways and find true life in Christ Jesus.  In Jesus name I Pray, amen.
