Romans 14:7-9

The Apostle Paul teaches that as we are God’s creation, we live or die to God; it is not for our own choice of decision, but that of God as He reigns supreme over our lives.  Paul states that Christ Jesus came, lived, and died for this reason – that we might live to Him.  He died so that those who are dead are still under His authority.  Living or dead, God is in control of all.

This is a promise that in life or death, the Lord reigns supreme over all creation.

Paul has been leading us in being loving of one another in spite of our differences.  He has declared in Romans 13:10 (NKJV), “Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”  The sinful nature that lives within each of us continues to fight with God’s Holy Spirit living within us to try to pull us away from our Savior Jesus.  But the way of the Lord is to love one another as He first loved us (John 13:34-35).  Even in death, God reigns supreme over the effects of sin, that we may have life eternal through our forgiveness in Christ Jesus as He has defeated Satan, sin, and death once for all (Romans 6:10).  He will help us to overcome the sin and temptations that Satan will throw at us if we will put and keep our focus on Him.

Dear LORD,

Through our differences, through our life and in our death, You continue to reign supreme.  Please help us to see that striving to put ourselves in a higher position than others is only our own self-righteousness in sin striving to take over our souls.  Please help us to see that in Your eyes we are all equally sinful and in need of forgiveness in Christ Jesus to obtain the righteousness that makes us free from sin for eternity.  Thank You for sending Your one and only Son, Jesus, to pay our price to sin that we may live through Him.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
