Romans 1:20

This verse begins with the word “For” and that informs us that this verse is directly related to the preceding verse/verses.  In this verse is the explanation of/or the proof in backing what was said in Romans 1:19 as the Apostle Paul has stated (NKJV), “because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.”  In Romans 1:20, Paul tells us, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,”.  In this last part of verse 20 is the “catch all” that prevents people from using the excuse that they didn’t see or didn’t know of God’s “eternal power and Godhead” (Romans 1:20c) as He is made known through the miracle of life and the wonder of how things such as plants, trees, animals, and humans have life and grow and change over the years in the cycle of life that God has given.  It is impossible for us to not see these things in nature that are reflective of God’s eternal power and Godhead.

This is a promise that God reveals Himself to us through creation and the wonders of it.

The issue with coming to a saving faith in Christ Jesus is not because God has not revealed Himself to us, but because we live in disobedience to God in the sinful nature and deny Him the credit due as Almighty God.  Satan strives 24 hours a day to cloud our judgment of the existence and power of God as was Satan’s desire to overthrow God.  But in his defeat can only try to keep us from knowing the truth about God and our Savior Jesus who died in our place to prepare the way for us to be reunited with Him and break us free from the chains in which Satan ties us in through the sinful nature.  God has revealed Himself to us and is all around us waiting for us to see Him in His wonderful creation…and believe in Him, confess our sins to Him, and invite Him into our hearts to cleanse us from the sins in which Satan ties us in so that we may be free from them and live eternal – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to take the time to notice the beauty and wonder in creation that we would see You in it and know that You are in ultimate control, even through the chaos of this physical life on earth.  We have no excuse not to see You in the things that You have created; please open our eyes that we may see the gift You have given us in Christ Jesus, that we may have eternal life through the salvation that Jesus offers to us that we may bring glory to You through our lives.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
