Romans 10:2-4

The Apostle Paul continues his heartfelt concern for the nation of Israel and gives them credit for having a desire “zeal” for God, “but not according to knowledge” (Romans 10:2, NKJV).  Paul states that the Israelites in seeking to establish their own righteousness are “ignorant of God’s righteousness” (Romans 10:3) and have not “submitted to the righteousness of God.”  Paul then sums us his entire preaching to those who have continued to seek righteousness through the Law and their own good works.  He proclaims in Romans 10:4, “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”

This is the promise of obtaining righteousness only through salvation in submission to God through Jesus.

We continue to work to show everyone around us how “good” we are.  It is instilled within us as human beings.  But in the eyes of God there is none who are righteous (Romans 3:9-20,23; Psalm 14:1-3; 53:1-3; Ecclesiastes 7:20).  So then, how do we answer the question of the dilemma in finding righteousness in the eyes of God as His righteousness is the only righteousness that truly matters?  Paul has informed us in Romans 3:21-22a (ESV), “But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it – the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe.”  It is only through Jesus that we may experience the righteousness of God in our lives by putting our faith in Him as our Savior – the Savior of the world (John 3:16-17).  Paul confirms this as he declares in Romans 10:4 (NKJV), “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”

Dear LORD,

We all want to do what we can to be found worthy in Your eyes, but please help us to understand that the Bible teaches us that none of us are worthy by Your standard of righteousness.  It is only through the blood of Christ Jesus that we are redeemed in the sacrifice that He made for all of mankind.  Please open our eyes, hearts, and minds to the righteousness of Christ Jesus that we may be found righteous in Your eyes through Him.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
