Revelation 9:3-6

In Revelation 9:1-2 the fifth angel sounded the trumpet given to him and a fallen star has been given the key to the bottomless pit. When the bottomless pit was opened, smoke rolled out and filled the air. In Revelation 9:3 we learn that out of the smoke came locusts. The locusts were given power as of that of scorpions. Revelation 9:4-6 (NKJV) states, “4They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. 6In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.”

This is the result of the sounding of the trumpet by the fifth angel after the seventh seal was opened from the scroll taken by the Lamb from the right hand of Him who sits on the throne.

In Revelation 9:5-6 the Bible teaches us that these locusts will not kill anyone, but that they will torment those who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads, and these tormented people will be in such distress that they will desire to die but will continue to live through this torture. Jesus describes what the kingdom of heaven will be like in Matthew 25 in the parable of the talents. For the faithful to God, Jesus states in Matthew 25:21, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.” But for the unfaithful servant Jesus declares in Matthew 25:30, “And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Jesus continues in Matthew 25:41, “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” Our time here on earth is a time set forth by God to allow Lucifer to prove himself in his claim to be greater/higher than God (Isaiah 14:12-15). But God is the Victor, and we can be victorious over Satan by putting our faith in Jesus, who has defeated Satan, death, and sin by overcoming the death of the cross in His resurrection from the dead. The Bible teaches us in John 1:12-13, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” God’s children have His seal on their foreheads (Revelation 9:4) and are the ones in which He will protect from His wrath to come. Put your faith in Jesus today and profess Him your Savior – believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you too will be saved (Romans 10:9-10).

Dear LORD,

Your wrath on the unfaithful inhabitants of this world is coming. You give us fair warning through the prophecy of Your Word and Your humble servant John. You give us the way to be saved from Your wrath in Your One and only Son Jesus who died in our place for our sins as the perfect sacrifice for all sin – that through Him we may be saved. Please put within our hearts the desire to be forgiven and lead us to that salvation – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
