Revelation 9:16-19
Revelation 9:15 (NKJV) states, “15So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a third of mankind.” From this, we then go directly into Revelation 9:16 which states, “16Now the number of the army of the horsemen was two hundred million; I heard the number of them.” There is no information given as to the gathering/formation of this army; simply that it is composed of two hundred million horsemen. This is the army that will kill a third of mankind (Revelation 9:15). We are given a picture of these horsemen in Revelation 9:17-19, “17And thus I saw the horses in the vision: those who sat on them had breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; and the heads of the horses were like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone. 18By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed – by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which came out of their mouths. 19For their power is in their mouth and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents, having heads; and with them they do harm.”
This is the result and description of the sounding of the sixth trumpet after the opening of the seventh seal from the scroll taken from the right hand of Him who sits on the throne of heaven by the Lamb.
We learn that the death of the one-third of mankind will be by three plagues (Revelation 9:18); fire, smoke, and brimstone. Fire and smoke we are aware of and of the damage they can cause to humanity, but we may not be as familiar with brimstone. It may also be referred to as sulfur, and is used in the Bible with judgment, such as in Genesis 19:24 when God rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah. When God sends His wrath on the earth these three will kill one-third of mankind. Put your faith in Jesus today and be saved from them.
Dear LORD,
You are kind, You are loving, and You are just. In Your righteous judgment is the eternal punishment for the disobedient to You in not seeking Your will for their lives through salvation in Jesus Christ. Please open our eyes that we would open our hearts to You and receive life instead of punishment for eternity. Please help us to see the life that You have for us in Christ Jesus, the Savior of the world. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
