Revelation 6:9-11

In Revelation 6:9-11 the Lamb opens the fifth seal from the scroll He had taken from the right hand of Him who sits on the throne of heaven. As He does this, we learn that the martyrs (those who had been killed for their faith in Christ Jesus) are under the altar of heaven waiting, crying out to God for vengeance in judgment to be taken on “those who dwell on the earth” (Revelation 6:10, NKJV). Revelation 6:11 states, “11Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of  their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.” The white robe represents their purity and reward for being martyred, but we also learn that their number will increase before God’s vengeance and judgment are released on those who dwell on the earth (Revelation 6:11).

This is the opening of the fifth seal from the scroll the Lamb took from the right hand of Him who sits on the throne of heaven.

We know that there are people who are being martyred still today for their faith in Christ Jesus. As Jesus’ blood was shed for the sins of the world (John 3:16-17), those whose blood is shed for Jesus will receive a special blessing in heaven as they will be robed in white and special attention will be given to them.

Dear LORD,

Those who are martyred for Your sake show us an unwavering faith, even unto death, as did our Savior Jesus to set us free from sin. These people have followed more closely in the footsteps of Jesus than any others, and we thank You that their blessings are reflective of their faith in You. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
