Revelation 6:1-2

In Revelation 6:1-2 the Lamb opens the first of the seven seals on the scroll that was taken from the right hand of the one who sits on the throne of heaven. John was called by one of the four living creatures to “Come and see” (Revelation 6:1, NKJV), and as we learn in Revelation 6:2, “2And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.”

There is some controversy as to who the rider of this horse is, as there is some contrast between this white horse and rider, and the white horse and rider later in this Revelation. Some perceive this rider to be Christ Himself going out to conquer the ways of the world; others see this rider as the antichrist in his attempt to mirror/reflect Christ Jesus as he is allowed to cause pain and suffering in the world. Others see this rider simply as war itself plaguing the world. The bow is a symbol of strength in war, and a crown is given to the victor, or as it would seem to be if this is the deceit of the devil seeking to reflect Christ Jesus.

This is the removal of the first seal from the scroll taken from the right hand of God by the Lamb.

As we continue our study of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, we will seek to gain a better understanding for the rider of the white horse in Revelation 6:2. There are few places in the Bible that are debated by the scholars that are at opposite ends of the possibilities, and in studying the things which are yet to come, some answers will remain unknown. But we do know from John 20:30-31, “And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”

Dear LORD,

As we begin to study the removal of the seven seals from the scroll and of the revelation therein, please give us understanding as we move through these future things so as to prepare us to be ready – ready in salvation through our Savior Jesus Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
