Revelation 21:7

The Bible teaches us in 1 John 5:4-5 (NKJV), “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? And in John 1:10-13 we learn, “He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

This is a promise of inheritance of all things for he who overcomes through Christ Jesus.

To overcome is to believe in Jesus as our Savior – your Savior who died in your place to pay the penalty for your sin and for my sin and for the sin of everyone everywhere. To overcome is to overcome our own pride and arrogance to realize and understand that we cannot save ourselves or earn our way into God’s grace to find our name written in the Book of Life. We must put our faith in Jesus to be saved from the wrath of God/He who sat on the throne of heaven.

The Bible is our textbook to life. Jesus declared in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” It is plain and simple; Jesus is our Savior to eternal life in true paradise. We must give up our own desires, which are the desires of this world, and seek the desires that God has for us. Jesus declared in Mark 8:34b-35, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.” This is not losing our lives to die physically, as a martyr, but to rid ourselves of the life we are living in sin – to lose it and put on a new life in Christ – to stop following the ways of this world and begin following the ways of the Lord.

Dear LORD,

We strive to make our way right, but we continue to struggle through the ways of this world with no real satisfaction in the accomplishments of our own desires. You have taught us that there is reward and inheritance for all who put their faith in You. Please give us understanding of this as we shift our desires from our own wants and needs to seeking Your desires for us that will truly fulfill our wants and needs for eternal life – in Christ! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
