Revelation 21:1

There are several passages throughout the wrath of God being poured out on the earth and its inhabitants that lead to the ultimate destruction of the earth. In Revelation 16:17-21the seventh angel poured out the seventh bowl of the wrath of Him who sits on the throne of heaven, and there was a great earthquake as has never before occurred, and the islands and mountains were not to be found. Hailstones of about 100 lbs. fell from heaven. A mighty angel has thrown a great millstone into the sea, causing all sea-going activity to cease (Revelation 18:21-24). And in Revelation 20:9-10 fire came down from heaven and devoured the armies of Gog and Magog. In Revelation 20:11-15 the earth and the heaven/sky fled away from the face of Him who sits on the great white throne. This is all reflective of Revelation 21:1 declaring, “1Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.” I believe that the sea is mentioned here specifically to resolve any questions as to the “earth” being interpreted from the “sea” in that the earth and the heaven fled from the face of Him who sits on the great white throne in judgment of the earth and its inhabitants. All that remains is all the dead from the earth and the sea awaiting the revelation of whose name is written in the Book of Life. Now all that remains are those who have been given a new life in Christ as the Apostle John sees a new heaven and a new earth in the renewal and reflection of eternal life.

This is the revelation of the old passing away and of the new – in Christ.

One day the earth, the heaven/the sky and universe, and the sea will all be gone when the wrath of God is released on the sinful nature, Babylon, the woman on the beast which is all controlled by the devil/Satan. We will all stand before the judgment throne of God with only one real factor determining our destination for eternity; have we answered the call of God on our lives to realizing that we are sinful and that we cannot save ourselves from sin; that we have gained understanding of being saved from sin through our Redeemer Jesus; have we asked His forgiveness and thanked Jesus for paying our debt to sin by dying once for all on the cross that we may be forgiven through accepting that He is our Savior and to seek His will for our lives; have we done works that are reflective of Jesus and are our hearts sincere to God as His children? The answer to these questions will be required when we stand before Him at the great white throne judgment. We, at that point, cannot lie about our hearts true desire as God knows our hearts and our deepest thoughts. We all will be found guilty in ourselves. The only way to salvation and redemption from this is if God’s seal of His Holy Spirit is found within us as is promised for all who will put their faith in Him. Jesus declared in John 14:6 (NKJV), “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Dear LORD,

The Bible teaches us that there will be a new heaven and a new earth one day; a place where You will dwell with all who, through salvation in Jesus, overcome the ways of this world. I pray it be so for us all, that we would all be – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
