Revelation 20:11-15

The Apostle John states in Revelation 20:11, “11Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.” Him who sat on the great white throne is debated as to whether it is God or Jesus, however, the Bible makes important declarations in this area as Jesus declares in John 10:30 (NKJV), “I and My Father are one.” And in 2 Corinthians 5:10 the Apostle Paul teaches, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” And Paul declares in Romans 14:10, “But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written:

“As I live, says the LORD,

Every knee shall bow to Me,

And every tongue shall confess to

                           God.” [Isaiah 45:23]

“So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.” The conclusion to the matter of who it is who sits on the great white throne is that Jesus no longer walks the earth in physical form but has ascended to his rightful place in heaven, and in heaven Jesus is reunited as One in Spirit bringing the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together as it was before the creation.

The earth, the sky/heavens, and the sea all flee from the face of the One who sits on the great white throne in expectation that they have at this point been destroyed. All humanity will be released from the earth, sea, and hell to stand before the judgment throne. The Book of Life will be opened by which all will be judged by their works. For those whose names are not written in the Book of Life will be thrown into the lake of fire.

The works that one will be judged by are according to the salvation of the individual as one cannot please God (or do good works in the eyes of God) if they are not submitted and obedient to Him and are seeking to please Him with their lives. This is reflective of those who have put their faith in Jesus as their Savior – those who have been saved.

This is the point of being saved; it is from the wrath of God and being thrown into the lake of fire that we are seeking to be saved from as it is the eternal destination of Satan and all who refuse to put their faith in God, whom we have established is one in the same with Jesus.

This is summed up in John 1:10-13 declaring, “He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” This is why Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3:3, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” And He continues in John 3:5-6, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” It is being born again as Jesus was born again through the Spirit who gives life from death.

Dear LORD,

The simple truth of the Bible is that we realize and begin the road to understanding that leads to insight and wisdom in Christ Jesus, the Savior of the world. That we would realize our sin and ask forgiveness; that we open our hearts to Jesus as we begin to grow and understand that Jesus died for our sins to save us from eternal wrath; that we would gain insight and wisdom that is from following in the footsteps of Jesus as He leads our every step; that we all can humbly yet confidently say . . . “Thank You Jesus for saving me from sin.” In Jesus name I pray, amen.
