Revelation 19:9-10
Revelation 19:9 (NKJV) states, “9Then he said to me, ‘Write: “Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!”’ And he said to me, ‘These are the true sayings of God.’” The “he” who is speaking may very well be the “mighty angel” that began speaking in Revelation 18:21 as he threw the great millstone into the sea in the destruction of Babylon/the woman on the beast/the sinful nature. This angel gives a blessing for all who are “called to the marriage supper of the Lamb” (Revelation 19:9) and then announces that these sayings are from God and are true as a declaration of God’s sovereignty.
In Revelation 19:10 the Apostle John apparently mistakes the mighty angel, who is speaking, as the LORD Himself. John falls down before him to worship him, but the mighty angel rebukes him and declares that he is a fellow servant of God as is John. The mighty angel then gives John the command to, “Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
This is a promise of the true sayings of God and the testimony of Jesus.
This statement is true of the ministry of Jesus; that His testimony/ministry/teachings is the spirit of prophecy. Jesus came to teach us about the things to come and of how we should and must prepare ourselves for salvation from the evils of this world. It is the most true prophecy of all. Jesus is the way to God, the truth about God, and the life that is found in God (John 14:6). Jesus holds within Himself the true Spirit of prophecy that He offers to all who will believe in Him.
Dear LORD,
You sent Your Son Jesus into this world not just to save us but to teach us about the things to come so that we will be prepared for that great day to have a seat at the marriage supper of the Lamb. You offer Your guidance and salvation to us freely; please help us to walk in the footsteps You have laid out for us that lead to eternal life and a seat at the marriage supper of the Lamb – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
