Revelation 18:1-3

In Revelation 18:1the Apostle John sees yet another angel coming down from heaven that has great authority and as he is coming to the earth, it is illuminated with his glory. This angel, with great authority and glory that shines bright enough to light up the entire world, is now serving a part of God’s great plan of salvation by announcing the fall of the sinful nature/Babylon/Satan. Revelation 18:3 (NKJV) declares, “3For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.”

This is an announcement of the fall of the sinful nature/Babylon/Satan.

When Satan fell from heaven (Luke 10:18) a position was left open for an angel to reflect the glory of God. This angel in Revelation 18:1 illuminates the entire earth with the glory that God has given him and he declares the fall of the sinful nature/Babylon. It may be possible that this is God’s way of showing the world that He is greater than the devil as it may appear that this angel is holding true to God yet shines in glory. This was the downfall of Satan – yes, pride was the leader, but to reflect the glory of God was a primary privileged role of Lucifer until he became corrupt. Ezekiel 28:14 states, as some scholars would agree that it is about the devil, “You were the anointed cherub who covers;” and in Ezekiel 28:15 we learn, “You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you.” The announcement has already been made of the fall of Babylon in Revelation 14:8, but this time the announcement is made by an angel that is described as fulfilling the role of what would have been, possibly, what Lucifer would be doing if he had kept his obedience to God and not have fallen from heaven. Do not allow the devil to persuade you into following him; put your trust and obedience in the Lord God Almighty,

Dear LORD,

As Lucifer fell from heaven in his own attempt for glory, You have given the angel in Revelation 18:1 the ability to shine glory throughout the entire earth. And even now You give us as mere human beings/mere Christians the ability to shine Your great love through us with a renewing of our hearts and minds when we put You first in our lives. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
