Revelation 1:8

In Revelation 1:8 is the final piece of the introduction and greeting of the Revelation of Jesus Christ as the announcement is given (NKJV), “8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” The “Alpha” is the first letter of the Greek alphabet; the “Omega” is the last letter of the Greek alphabet. Together they represent Jesus as the first and the last in His ever-present being. He is “the Beginning and the End”,  “the Almighty”, “who is and who was and who is to come.” Jesus has existed with God from eternity and has come to the earth as a part of God to save His people from sin (John 3:16-17). This is hard for us to imagine of how God can do this, but we must always keep in mind that God is omnipresent, which means that God is always present everywhere at the same time. This is in God’s character as being omnipotent/all-powerful and omniscient/all-knowing.

This is the promise that Jesus is God in His omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent character that is found only in God.

Jesus came to the earth to remedy the effects of sin on His created earthly world. He accomplished that mission through His sinless death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead as death has no power over a sinless being – the only sinless being – Jesus, God in human form. Jesus has returned to His rightful place in heaven with God Almighty and has given this revelation to His servant John to write so that we may be aware of what is about to take place in God’s great plan of salvation for humanity.

Dear LORD,

When Jesus made the “I AM” statements in the Gospel of John, He made the connection for us to realize and understand that He is God as God Almighty made the same statement to Moses in Exodus 3:14. Please help us to see that You came to us to save us because we were lost in sin with no way out by our own doing. Please help us to realize and understand that You and Jesus and Your Holy Spirit are One. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
