Revelation 17:7-8

In Revelation 17:7 the angel that is interpreting these things for the Apostle John questions John as to why he marveled at these things and then promises to explain for him the mystery of the woman and the beast. The angel describes the beast in Revelation 17:8 (NKJV) as, “8The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.” This is describing the attack of Satan on this world as he sends the historical figures of destruction against the human race in his attempt to keep us away from repenting to God and receiving the blessing of redemption from the sinful nature in Christ Jesus. These historical figures come and go as those that was (being the sinful historical figures of the past), and is not (the time between the coming and going of these historical sinful figures), and yet is (the sinful historical figures that are or yet to come).

This is the description of the beast on which the woman/the sinful nature itself rides which was full of names of blasphemy.

We all know that as Christians the sinful nature does not quit tempting and trying us because we have put our faith in Jesus. As a matter of fact, the devil strives even more to make us fall as he wants to pull us away from Jesus and back into his own grasp. To feel that Satan is tempting and trying you more and more is a good sign of your growth in Christ Jesus; if the devil was not worried about you being part of God’s great plan of defeating him, he would not be trying so hard to get you back.

Dear LORD,

The sinful nature of this world is all around us striving to pull us away from our new life in Christ Jesus as we put and keep our faith in You. Please fill us with the confidence that we are victorious in Christ Jesus and sealed from the devil forever more. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
