Revelation 17:1-2

In Revelation 17:1-2 one of the angels who had one of the bowls of God’s wrath invites the Apostle John to come with him and see the judgment of the great harlot/sinful nature/Babylon. Revelation 17:1-2 (NKJV)declares, “1Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.” The great harlot is in reference to Babylon or the sinful nature of the world – the corruption that leads people away from God. The reference to “many waters” (Revelation 17:1) is the flow of corruption throughout the world as a wave overflows everything in its path. The many waters can also represent humanity that is overcome with the temptations of the sinful nature that lead away from God as Revelation 17:2b states, “and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.” This is all connected to what we have learned about Babylon in Revelation 14:8 declaring, “8And another angel followed, saying, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” Also, as stated in Revelation 16:19 declaring, “19Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath.”

This is the judgment of the great harlot/sinful nature/Babylon.

Jesus declared to Nicodemus in John 3:5-6, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” And in John 14:6 Jesus declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” The Bible teaches us of salvation in Christ Jesus being the only way to heaven. For all who refuse to ask Jesus to save them from His wrath will be included in those of the wrath that will befall Babylon. There is no better day or time to begin a new relationship with God than right now today. Open your heart to Jesus and He will fill it with joy and forgiveness.

Dear LORD,

You describe to us Your great wrath that will befall all who refuse to open their hearts to the love that You offer through the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus. We ask Your forgiveness for our sins and invite You to live within our hearts and guide us throughout our earthly lives so that we may enter into Your glory in heaven for eternity. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
