Revelation 1:7

We have learned in Revelation 1:1 that this is the revelation of Jesus Christ, and in Revelation 1:2 that this is the testimony of Jesus Christ, and in Revelation 1:5 that Jesus Christ is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and that He washed us from our sins in His own blood. In Revelation 1:7 (NKJV) we learn, “7Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.” I believe that we all picture Him coming with the clouds as the clouds of the atmosphere that we see most every day, but these clouds will be somewhat different as they are the clouds of God’s presence and exist in His glory. We learn that every person will see Jesus coming, even those who “pierced” Him, being not just the one that pierced Him on the cross with the sword (John 19:34) but everyone who pierced Him by not believing in Him. All the tribes/people groups of the world will mourn not because of the return of Jesus, but because of their disbelief in Him as His reality will be made known to everyone at that moment. They will mourn because of their unrepentant hearts. Revelation 1:7 ends with the words, “Even so, Amen.”, and is a declaration of being justifiably complete.

This is the promise of the return of Jesus Christ.

In this passage of Revelation 1:7 is the promise that Jesus Christ will return, and that everyone will see Him coming. But the concentration is not of rejoicing but of mourning for those who have refused/rejected Him as the Savior of the world (John 3:16-17). Those who are addressed in this passage are of those referred to in John 3:19 as Jesus declares, “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” This is a lesson that teaches us of what we do not want to do or be included in as those who rejected the call of the Lord Jesus from entering their hearts. Let’s open our hearts to Jesus today and let Him fill us with His Holy Spirit and seal our hearts as children of God in preparation for this day that we will not mourn with those who refuse Jesus, but for them.

Dear LORD,

You teach us that Jesus is coming again with the clouds surrounding Him in Your glory. Please help us to see and realize that one day when this takes place that everyone will then mourn in repentance who have refused to open their hearts to Jesus, the Savior of the world. He has been given by You as a gift to all who will receive Him; please help us to receive Him before this coming day. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
