Revelation 16:19-21
After the great earthquake (Revelation 16:18), we learn that the great city was divided into three parts (Revelation 16:19). This great city would have been referred to as Rome as it was considered the center for secular activity that would have been disobedient to God. The reference to Babylon and the cup of the wine of God’s fierce wrath to be given to her is in reference to the sinful nature of this world and the disobedience to God that she has caused those who have drunk of her wine (Revelation 14:8). The earthquake that will take place is so powerful and widespread that all the islands will be swallowed up by the seas and the mountains will crumble to the ground (Revelation 16:20). To accompany this great earthquake, along with the “noises, thunderings, and lightnings” (Revelation 16:18), will be a hailstorm in which each hailstone will weigh approximately one hundred pounds/one talent (Revelation 16:21). And once again, as we have seen with the pouring out of the fourth and fifth bowls of God’s wrath on the earth, men did not repent but blasphemed God because of this great plague.
This is the pouring out of the seventh bowl of God’s wrath on the earth.
As the pouring out of God’s wrath on the earth gets more and more fierce, the hardening of man’s hearts becomes less and less repentant. God is patient and is waiting for us all to come to Him with a repentant heart asking of His forgiveness. He is desiring that we all are reunited with Him in His glory in heaven. But He will not force Himself upon you as His true love for you, by its own characteristics, can only offer in hopes that you will reply. He sent His One and only Son to save you from sin. . . invite Him into your heart today, and you too can become a child of God.
Dear LORD,
We are learning that as Your wrath on this earth is poured out more and more, humanity will harden their hearts more and more, blaming You instead of repenting from the sinful nature that has caused Your wrath to be poured out. Please open our eyes and our ears so that we may see and hear Your great warnings of Your wrath to come so that we may be saved from it. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
