Revelation 12:13-17

We learn in Revelation 12:13 that the dragon/devil had a moment when he realized that he had been cast out of heaven and to the earth (Luke 10:18). The dragon then takes out his frustrations of being cast out of heaven on the woman/Israel who had given birth to the Child/Jesus (Revelation 12:1-6). In Revelation 12:14 the woman/Israel is given two wings of a great eagle to escape the persecution. This may be in reference to Isaiah 40:31 stating,

“But those who wait on the LORD

Shall renew their strength;

They shall mount up with wings like

eagles,

They shall run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not faint.”

In Revelation 12:15 the flood “spewed” from the mouth of the serpent is in reference to the “flood” of persecution brought on the woman/Israel by the devil in his anger and frustration of being cast out of heaven. The earth helping the woman/Israel (Revelation 12:16) could simply be that on the earth, which is God’s creation, the devil will not be allowed to prevail against God. Revelation 12:17 may be referring to the continued persecution that the devil throws at the woman/Israel and continues even today.

This is the war waged against the woman/Israel on earth by the devil in his frustration of being cast out of heaven.

We are learning of the evils of the devil and of why he persecutes the inhabitants of the earth, and especially the woman/Israel who brought forth the Savior of the world, Jesus. But as God does for the woman/Israel in giving her wings like an eagle to flee from the persecution of the devil through trusting in Him for salvation, He also does for all who will trust in Him through putting their faith in the Child – Jesus. God chose the nation of Israel to be His example to the rest of the world that He will save us from the devil; we simply need to trust in Him and seek His ways in our lives – through putting our faith in Jesus.

Dear LORD,

We are beginning to see the big picture of why the devil attacks each of us every day. It is not because he hates us but because he hates that You give us the right to salvation in Jesus Christ – the one thing that the devil wanted to do by himself without You. Please help us to realize and understand that You will give us wings like eagles to soar far above the persecutions of the devil if we will put our faith in Jesus and seek and follow Your will for our lives – in Christ! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
