Revelation 11:3-6

In Revelation 11:3 is the remainder of the words spoken by the mighty angel in Revelation 10. He speaks of two witnesses that will prophesy for one thousand two hundred and sixty days. In Revelation 11:4 John then describes these two witnesses as olive trees and lampstands, possibly in reference to Zechariah 4:1-6. This indicates that the power of the two witnesses is not their own power but the power of the LORD God Almighty working through them. We learn in Revelation 11:6 that these two witnesses are powerful in the LORD and will be able to stop the rain as did Elijah (1 Kings 17:1), and to turn water to blood and to call plagues upon the earth as did Moses (Exodus 7:20) (Exodus 8:1-15). Because of this, many scholars believe that these two witnesses will be Moses and Elijah. The emphasis may simply be that God wants to relay that His power is as great today as it was during the times of these two great prophets.

This is a promise of two powerful witnesses that will do wonders through the power of God.

Throughout the ministry of Jesus, as we see in Matthew 4:17, is a call to repentance, and this call to repentance is the main point of the Revelation of Jesus Christ. The two witnesses described in Revelation 11:3-6 will be preaching this same message of repentance. This is a reoccurring theme in the Bible and leads to Jesus, the way, the truth, and the life. No one will come to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).

Dear LORD,

These two witnesses to come will preach repentance for the forgiveness of sins – to turn from our wicked ways and to the righteousness of Jesus Christ, our Savior – the Savior of the world (John 3:16-17). Please help us to see that this message has been preached since the fall of man as You urge us to return to You and receive forgiveness by putting our faith in You through Christ Jesus while living in a sinful world, that You would give us the eternal prize of blessing living in Your glory. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
