Philemon 4-7
In Philemon 4-7 the Apostle Paul commends Philemon for his love and faith toward Jesus and all the saints. His prayer for Philemon is, “6that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” (Philemon 6, NKJV). Paul notes in Philemon 7 that “great joy and consolation” are the result of Philemon’s love for others through the example he has shown and has been refreshing to the hearts of others.
This is an example of faith in action, and the refreshing results of that action.
Faith in action produces results of effective love, joy, and consolation. Faith in action is a refreshing time for those who see the results. Jesus instructed His disciples in Matthew 17:20 of the power of faith as He states, “for assuredly, I say to you. if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” Paul recounts his conversion and the power of faith as he quotes the words of Jesus to him in Acts 26:12-18 and states in Acts 26:18, “to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.”
Dear LORD,
You teach us in Romans 10:17, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Please help us to hear your word in our hearts, minds, and souls so that we may be effective faithful servants, “of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” (Philemon 6). In Jesus name I pray, amen.
