Matthew 28:1-8

The Sabbath was the seventh day of the week, the day in which God rested from His work of creation (Genesis 2:1-3).  In Matthew 28:1 we learn that it was the day after the Sabbath in which Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb of Jesus.  Matthew 28:2-4 (NKJV) declares, “2And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it.  3His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.  4And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.”  The guards as described in Matthew 28:4 are the guards in which the chief priests and Pharisees placed there as we learned in Matthew 27:62-66.  As the angel of the Lord speaks to the women, the guards are witness to this event and are left in awe.  In Matthew 28:5-7 the angel of the Lord gives the women instructions that they should not be afraid but that they should go and tell Jesus’ disciples that He has risen, and that they should go to Galilee where they will see Him.  In Matthew 28:8 is a very important bit of information for all who seek salvation in and through Jesus Christ; in Matthew 28:8 we learn that the women followed the instructions given them by the angel of the Lord, and they did so with excitement and great joy.  They ran to share the gospel – the good news of their risen Savior.

This is the resurrection of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.

As we seek God’s will for our lives, we should do so as did Mary Magdalene and the other Mary – we should do so with excitement and great joy.  We are to share the good news – the gospel of Jesus Christ with those in which God has given us in our lives.  If we all do this, the gospel will spread throughout the world to all people and all nations and generations.  It is our duty as Christians to share that which God has shown in His great love to us – to others.

Dear LORD,

Thank You so much for fulfilling Your promise of giving us a Savior – a risen Savior that paid our price to sin in death – a death that we are deserving of yet You took our death for us and then defeated death through the purity of Christ Jesus.  Thank You for Your Word so that we may learn of Your great love for us in the salvation You have provided for us in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
