Matthew 26:62-68

In Matthew 26:62-68 we find the testimony that convicts Jesus of blasphemy, not because His testimony was blasphemous but because the high priest and the council did not believe Him.  It was Jesus’ own testimony that the high priest used against Him.  The high priest asked Jesus if He was the Christ, the Son of God (Matthew 26:63).  Jesus simply answered, “It is as you said” (Matthew 26:64, NKJV).

It was the unbelief of the people that convicted Jesus, and they beat Him and mocked Him for it (Matthew 26:67-68).

This is an example of the rejection that people have for Jesus if they refuse to believe in Him.

The Bible teaches us in John 1:10-13 (HCSB), “He was in the world, and the world was created through Him, yet the world did not recognize Him.  He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him.  But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.”  The rejection of the world is what brought Jesus to the cross – the reason for which He came – in rejection, to take the place of the sinful as they bombarded Him with their sinfulness.  This is why Jesus came into this world, and as He approached the cross, the sins of man would be compiled upon Him, literally.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to focus not upon ourselves – the selfishness and greediness of our hearts, but that we would see Jesus as He humbly took our sins – our selfishness and greediness of our hearts to the cross so that we may see the example He set for us in humility so we could live through Him.  Please forgive us LORD for being sinful, and lead us to the cross of Christ Jesus unto salvation and everlasting life – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
