Matthew 25:24-25

We know from Matthew 25:15 that one servant was given five talents, another was given two talents, and another was given one talent. Each servant was given according to his own ability.  The first two servants invested their talents and grew them to twice what was given them so that when the landowner returned, they were able to give in return for what was given them.  The result was that the landowner’s kingdom grew because of the obedience and dedication of his servants.

But the third servant was only given one talent, and he was afraid of the landowner – he was too afraid that if he put his talent to use, he might lose it.  So he hid it, profiting himself nor his landowner anything from what he was given.  When the landowner returned, he was given only what he had given his servant, showing no growth to his kingdom.

This is an example that everyone who is given a gift/talent from God does not utilize what they have been given.

When God calls us to Himself and we respond to that calling by opening our hearts to the gift He has given us of everlasting life and forgiveness through His One and only Son Jesus, our calling is a call to action.  God will give us, according to our abilities, gifts/talents that we are to utilize and grow through our relationship with Him and His guidance in our lives through His Holy Spirit.  We are all called to share the gospel message with the world, but God utilizes our unique traits and characteristics to be specific for the gifts that He gives us in the ways that we show His love to others through our lives as His children – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to see that we all in Christ Jesus have been given gifts/talents that we are to utilize to share Your love for us with others so that they too might have their eyes opened and come to the same saving grace that saved us all.  Please help us to see that You have called us all to help Your kingdom grow through the gifts/talents that You have given us – in Christ!  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
