Matthew 24:45-51

In continuing His answer to His disciples questioning of when He will return and of the end of the age (Matthew 24:3), Jesus has stated that no one knows when that time will be (Matthew 24:36).  In Matthew 24:45-51 Jesus teaches that in not knowing when He will return, the faithful and wise servant will always strive to be ready for that moment.  But the one who feels in his heart that there is plenty of time to enjoy the ways of this world and then to later get things in proper order with God, for him, Jesus states in Matthew 24:50-51 (NKJV), “50the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of, 51and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites.  There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”  I do not believe that Jesus is teaching that this one will be literally and physically cut in two, but spiritually – as one would feel a pain that cuts to the heart.  Jesus teaches us of the need to be right in spirit, and it is the spirit that holds the place in which God’s Holy Spirit dwells within us.  It is the spirit in which lives eternal in heaven, or in hell depending on the choice you make to put your faith wholly in Jesus or to continue believing that you can find another way to heaven, in which there is none.

This is a command to be ready with a heart that is submitted and obedient to Christ Jesus for His return.

This is a promise that those who continue in the ways of this world will be cut off from the gift of salvation.  They will be appointed with the hypocrites where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 24:50-51).

Jesus teaches us these things in the Bible: to be ready for His return as we do not know the day or the hour.  It is time to open your heart to Jesus today and let Him help you through the trials and tribulations of this world.  It is time to believe in the One who gave His life for you, so that you may live forgiven and free of the sinful nature for eternity basking in His glory.  It is time to trust in Jesus as your Savior and seek God’s will for your life as His ways are greater than yours and His will never leave nor forsake you (John 14:15-18) – He will give you life, love, and peace – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

We all want to be ready to be received by You and welcomed into Your kingdom of heaven when that day comes.  Please help us to see that we cannot continue following the ways of this world that trap us in the sinful nature and be welcomed into heaven – we must put our trust in Jesus to set us free from the chains Satan has us bound in as Jesus has defeated Satan once for all and offers us life eternal if we will put our faith in Him (Romans 6:10-11).  Please let it be so LORD.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
