Matthew 19:3-6

In Matthew 19:3-6 Jesus is tested about His knowledge of the Law by the Pharisees.  They asked Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”  But Jesus, being the Word made flesh (John 1:14), quoted to them the first words of God when He created man in the garden.  Jesus declares in Matthew 19:4-6 (NKJV), “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ [Genesis 1:27; 5:20] and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? [Genesis 2:24].  So then, they are no longer two but one flesh.  Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

This is a promise of marriage in the eyes of God being between a man and a woman.

This is a command that man should not change the laws of God.

We should not view marriage as a convenience but as a gift from God that is to experience a love between a man and a woman that was designed by God to create a bond that is intended to be pure and unbroken.  The truth is that we live in a sinful world and we experience the sins of this world in our lives.  But all is not lost for anyone who has been divorced for, “just any reason” as the Pharisees brought this question to Jesus.  Jesus came to pay the price for sin, and that includes all sin, not just what we might call “the little ones.”  Jesus died to pay the penalty for the sins of the world – all sins, so that we may, through believing in Him – that He paid our price for our sins, be forgiven and live a new life free from the sins of this world – in Christ!  Put your faith in Jesus today and ask His forgiveness for your sins… and begin living a new life of joy – in Christ!

Dear LORD,

We tend to view marriage lightly, as a convenience for our lifestyle that we may change at any given time.  But please help us to see the bond in marriage that You intended it to be – unbreakable and solid in the foundation of our salvation in Christ Jesus.  Please forgive us for the sins we have committed and set us free from the mindset of this world so that we may live free in Christ Jesus.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
