Matthew 19:1-2

In Matthew 19:1-2 Jesus has finished this portion of teachings on forgiveness.  He has departed from Galilee and is now in Judea.  The Bible teaches us that “great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there” (Matthew 19:2, NKJV).

This is an example that following Jesus will lead to healing.

One thing that is always present in a sinful decaying world is the need for healing; healing in our lives, healing in our land, healing in our nation, healing in the world.  The pain and suffering that we face does not leave anyone exempt from experiencing the trials and temptations that are present in this world.  We need guidance to navigate through this world and avoid as much pain and suffering as possible, but we will still be prone to it.  We need healing from things that we may feel are only things that we face alone and that no one else would understand these personal pains of life.

When Jesus began His ministry He proclaimed, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17); and in Matthew 4:19 He called disciples to Him as He declares, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”  And then, do you know what He did next?  He taught, He preached, and He healed all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people (Matthew 4:23).  Jesus teaches in Luke 4:18-19 (HCSB) as He quotes Isaiah 61:1-2, “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor.  He has sent Me to proclaim freedom to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Jesus healed the physical infirmities of this life to show His power to heal the spiritual infirmities that will save us from condemnation.  Jesus proclaims this in John 3:16-21 (ESV), “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.  And this is the judgment; the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.  For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.  But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”  Come to the light today – come to Jesus, the healer of the world that gives the light of life, and be healed for eternity – in Christ!

Dear LORD,

We are lost in the pains and sufferings of this world.  We need Your healing touch in our lives to be set free from the chains that Satan binds us in.  We need salvation in the light that only comes from the healing touch of Your One and only Son Jesus.  Please let it be so LORD.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
