Matthew 13:34-35

Jesus has already spoken of the prophecy in which He is fulfilling through telling parables (Matthew 13:14-15).  The Apostle Matthew teaches us in Matthew 13:34 (NKJV), “All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them,…”  As Jesus is speaking to many who would not open their eyes and ears to Him, He reiterates a very important part of His ministry, which is that the prophets have spoken of Him, and now He is here to fulfill the prophecies about Him.  This is a way of proving that He is the Messiah, but the people would have to open their eyes and ears to Him before they could believe in Him.

This is an example that Jesus is the Holy One spoken of by the prophets.

Today we have God’s word to teach us and to lead us in the way, the truth, and the life, which is Jesus.  He came to set the world free from sin, and as He ministered and preached during His earthly physical life, He deliberately fulfilled God’s will for Him in coming to be the salvation and reuniting element in bridging the gap that sin divided man from God with.  As we study His life and ministry, we know that He ultimately would die on the cross and then be raised from the dead, conquering sin, death, and Satan once for all.  The Apostle Paul declares in Romans 6:4 (NIV), “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Dear LORD,

Our faith in You and Your Son Jesus our Savior is the key to understanding which opens the door to growth in our relationship with You.  Please speak to our hearts so that we can learn to see with our eyes and to hear with our ears so that we may understand with our hearts and repent and be healed by our Savior Jesus.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
