Matthew 13:18-19

In Matthew 13:18-19, Jesus begins to label the pieces of the parable in His explanation of it.  He states in Matthew 13:19 (NKJV), “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart.  This is he who received seed by the wayside.”  We must take note here of the topic, which is not simply Jesus talking/teaching, but what Jesus is teaching; “the word of the kingdom” (Matthew 13:19), or as we see and have learned in Matthew 4:17b (NIV), “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”  Jesus teaches us that the seed sown by the wayside is the word that is not understood by the hearer.  The result is that the devil distracts this person from his or her focus on the word of God long enough for the memory of it to pass away, resulting in a lost soul remaining lost.

This is an example of the seed that is sown by the wayside.

This continues to hold true for us today as the knowledge of God and the word of God can only be received if we know what it is, and that is only found by studying God’s word and sharing it with others and being a part of a Bible teaching church.  We now have online ministries, such as this one, and I know that God works through these ministries because I see it in the comments that you leave each day.  I know that God is working through this ministry, and that is the whole point of this ministry – to share the word of God with others so that we may all grow in our knowledge of the word of God and in our relationships with Him through the salvation that He provides through His One and only Son Jesus.  We must continue to share the gospel and let God work through our lives to be living examples of Jesus so that others too may see the love that God has shown us and be encouraged to open their hearts to Jesus and experience the love of God in their lives.  As Jesus states in Matthew 13:9 (ESV), “He who has ears, let him hear.”

Dear LORD,

We do not want Your word to fall by the wayside, but that it will begin to grow in us and then branch out to others.  We want to be living examples of Jesus today and share the love that You have shown us to others.  We want to do Your will for our lives and bring glory to You through our salvation in Your One and only Son Jesus.  Please let it be so LORD.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
