Matthew 12:42

The Bible teaches us about the “queen of the South,” as is mentioned in Matthew 12:42 (NKJV), in her great wealth and power – “the queen of Sheba” (1 Kings 10:1, NIV).  She came from afar to see the great king Solomon, and to hear him speak in the wisdom that God had granted him with.  She declares in 1 Kings 10:9, “Praise be to the LORD your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel.  Because of the LORD’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness.”

As Jesus used the example of Jonah and the salvation of the Ninevites to pronounce judgment on the Pharisees for not believing in Him, Jesus also tells the Pharisees in Matthew 12:42 that the queen of Sheba will also rise up to declare judgment on them as she traveled from afar to see and hear the wisdom of king Solomon, yet One greater than Solomon (Jesus) has come to them, yet they refuse to open their eyes, hearts, and minds to Him.

This is a promise of the great power, wisdom, and salvation found in Jesus.

In the Bible – God’s Word, Jesus gives us examples of the miracles in which He performed.  He gives us examples of the saving power of God as He used others such as Jonah and king Solomon to lead people to faith in Him as Almighty God.  We have these documented proofs of the power of Jesus today for us to learn and understand of God’s great love for us in His One and only Son Jesus.  He gives us this information so that we too may put our faith in Him and be saved from sin and live eternal in His love and glory.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to see the reasons why You give us these examples in Your Word – the Bible – so that we may learn of Your great love and sacrifice for us – so that we can believe through our faith in You of Your great free gift to all who will believe in You and open our hearts to the saving power of Jesus.  Please let it be so LORD.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
