Matthew 11:1

The Bible teaches us in Matthew 11:1 that when Jesus had finished instructing His closest named disciples/apostles, He then, also, went about the cities teaching and preaching.  He did not simply wait to see how His apostles would do in the commands that He had given them, He joined them – He participated with them – He led by example.

This is an example that our faith in Jesus should be a reflection of Him in our deeds/works.

James teaches us in James 2:18-19 (NIV), “But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have deeds.”  Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.  You believe that there is one God. Good!  Even the demons believe that – and shudder.  The point is simply believing that God exists is not enough; James tells us that the demons believe in God, but we all know that the demons are awaiting their eternal punishment, not salvation.  Those who truly believe in the salvation that God provides for us through His Son Jesus live a changed life that does not continue to seek the ways of this world but live with a desire to please God with the life that He has given us in Christ Jesus.  The deeds/works of a true believer show the salvation of that person as that saved person’s life is reflective of the ways of Jesus.

Dear LORD,

Jesus teaches us in John 3:20-21 (NKJV), “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.  But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”  Please help us to see that we are the reflection of Jesus; if the world cannot see Jesus in us, then Jesus cannot be seen in the world today.  Please give us strength to stand up for Jesus and let the light that You have given us shine throughout the world today.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
