Matthew 10:27

As Jesus continues to instruct His apostles for their mission to spread the gospel, He states in Matthew 10:27 (NKJV), “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.  Jesus has called His apostles to Him (Matthew 10:1) and He is teaching/instructing them in private.  This is what Jesus means by saying, “Whatever I teach you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.” (Matthew 10:27).  He is privately teaching them, but what He is teaching them, He wants them to proclaim to the whole town – He wants them to “proclaim” the message of the gospel.  He wants everyone to hear the good news.

This is a command by Jesus to “proclaim” the gospel so that everyone may hear.

Jesus speaks to our hearts, just as He spoke to His apostles “in the dark” or what we may call “privately,” He instructs our hearts with the message that He wants us to proclaim today.  This message today is the same message that He instructed His disciples to, “preach on the housetops.”  And that message is the same message that Jesus preached as we learn from Matthew 4:17; 10:7, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Dear LORD,

Please open our hearts, minds, and souls to the gospel message – the same message that You instructed Your apostles to “preach on the housetops” (Matthew 10:27) that we too will bring glory to You through our lives and lead others to Your great love.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
