Mark 9:9-10

In Mark 9:9-10 we learn that as Jesus, Peter, James, and John came down from the mountain where the three had just witnessed Jesus transfigured, Jesus commanded them to not tell anyone what they had seen until after He would be risen from the dead. Peter, James, and John were puzzled at this saying of Jesus as they did not understand the magnitude of what was to come in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus does not say why He did not want them to tell anyone of this event, but a good possibility would be that if the people knew of this event, they may rally to make Him the physical king of the nation which would counter the crucifixion narrative and prevent the mission of Jesus from saving the world from sin.

This is an example of the importance of the mission of Jesus in taking on human form to save humanity, and of the humility that Jesus held in maintaining His mission.

Jesus knew that if word got out about His transfiguration and the glorious body that the three witnessed, He may very well have been mistaken for a [g]od of the secular world and placed in the same category as those gods that the Apostle Paul spoke of in Acts 17:16-31 (NKJV) as he addressed the inscription he found “TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.” But we have the rest of the story; we have the testimonies of Peter, James, and John of the resurrected Jesus, our Lord and Savior. We no longer have to wait for another day, for today is the day of salvation; today is the day of the risen Lord Jesus. Put your trust in Him and be saved.

Dear LORD,

The Apostle Paul declared in 2 Corinthians 6:2, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” in response to the words of God as declared by the Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 49:1-13 proclaiming our Savior Jesus. Please help us today to put our full trust in You LORD God and open our hearts to the salvation You offer us in Your One and only Son Jesus. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
