Mark 9:7-8
Moses led God’s chosen people Israel out of captivity and through the wilderness to the promised land. He was the one who the Israelites turned to for guidance as God spoke to His people Israel through Moses; He gave them the Law which was their instructions to being obedient to God and receiving His blessings.
Elijah was God’s chosen prophet to prove God’s existence when all others had turned to following Baal and Asherah, the gods of Sidonians (1 Kings 18:18-40). It was Elijah and Moses who led God’s chosen people Israel to be the example to all other nations and peoples of the great power of God over and above all other gods of the world. They were leading the people to trust in God – to put their faith in God – to believe in the God of heaven that saves them from the trials and tribulations of this world that they have no control over – that the God of heaven saves all who will put their faith in Him.
Jesus was in the cloud with Moses and Elijah as the One in which they were leading the people to – the Savior of the world! Mark 9:7-8 (NKJV) declares, “7And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!” 8Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.”
This is a promise that the prophets chosen by God throughout the Scriptures were chosen to lead us all to the everlasting Prophet Jesus for salvation, forgiveness, and eternal life in His righteousness.
When the cloud lifted, Jesus remained. He is our rock and our salvation. Build the house of your heart, mind, and strength on the rock of Jesus, for when the clouds of life lift away, you will find that only Jesus remains. Put your trust in Jesus today and He will save you too!
Dear LORD,
You have given us the prophets of the Old Testament to show us, and the world, of Your great power and saving love. Please help us to see that they were preludes to the great leader Jesus; that we should be led to Jesus, the One that remains when all the clouds have lifted. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
