Mark 8:27-30

In Mark 8:27-30 as Jesus and His disciples walked along the road to “the towns of Caesarea Philippi” (Mark 8:27, NKJV) He asked them who the people believed Him to be. In Mark 8:28 we learn that many people believed Jesus to be “John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” But then Jesus asked His disciples who they thought He was. Peter spoke up and declared Jesus to be the Christ (Mark 8:29). Then Jesus does something that may seem to be out of place as He warns His disciples to tell no one about Him (Mark 8:30). Possibly the most unique thing about this conversation is that it took place in the predominantly Gentile community of Caesarea Philippi (Mark 8:27). We do not have solid evidence for why Jesus would disclose this information to His disciples in the middle of Gentile regions, but to believe that this may have been an indication that Jesus would soon provide salvation and forgiveness for all people and all nations, not just the nation of Israel as many people believed at that time.

This is a promise that Jesus is the Christ and Savior of the world (John 3:16-17).

As we walk along the road of life, Jesus will come along side of us and ask each of us, “Who do you think I am?” The answer we give will determine the course of the rest of our life. Do you believe that Jesus is the Christ? If you do, and you ask Him to walk with you for the rest of your life, He will walk with you every step of the way as He will send His Holy Spirit to live within you (John 14:15-18, 23-24, 26-27).

Dear LORD,

You promised to send Your Holy Spirit to live within all who will put their faith in You; if we love You and keep Your commandments. Jesus declares in John 15:11-12, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” Please help us to show one another this kind of love that we would truly be Your children. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
